Some people have had luck finding someone using facebook or myspace. Facebook is set up to find high school and college friends but you can also have luck finding an old neighbor or person you knew you've been dying to reconnect with.
If this fails, I will turn to whitepages.com , use google and also try to find someone by putting in their last known e-mail address or even phone number into google.
You can also type in their friends' names or parents' names to see if you can locate them this way. Sometimes you won't find the person you know, but you'll find someone who knows them more easily. If a female has married or re-married, this can be hard to track down due to the person no longer using their former last name.

Are There Numbers on Your Kid's Cell Phone or Spouse's Mobile Phone That Are Unfamiliar
Do you sometimes pick up someone's cell phone and notice numbers that are unfamiliar? This can be troubling when it's your teen, boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse's phone. It can create a lot of inner insecurity and you don't know if you are being paranoid or you should be suspicious.
Is your kid safe? Is your bank account possibly being jeopardized? What can you do to uncover the mystery phone number you see?
First of all, you can type it into the internet to see if anything comes up. Sometimes you can find a last name. Another option is that there are some directories in public libraries that list cell phone numbers. They usually cover the region you live in so wouldn't pertain to numbers out of the area.
You can also dial from your phone in restricted mode to the number you see and try to find out who it is. You can pretend you are calling from a company and needing information or ask for a different person and hope to learn more about the caller that way. This isn't the easiest method and many people are on the do not call list so they shouldn't be getting calls from solicitors.
There are some internet search options you can use for free to try to trace a cell phone number. The ones that are free may not have paid much to get the databases and resources that some other services online use which are paid. You can first try out a free service to see if it can get you the information that you need. Be aware of pop ups and other distractions on the site that may try to get you to sign up for free trials that can lead to high costs in a couple of weeks. Use a reputable company to get the information that you need.

How to Find an Old Friend from School or College: Tips to Locate Someone from Your Past
You may suddenly feel nostalgic and think about getting in touch with a former old high school classmate. Yet, it's hard to know where to start. First of all, look them up in home town where you knew them to see if their parents are in the home. If so, that would be a good way to get the phone number.
If that fails, see if your high school has a website. The database may be there that has current phone numbers of graduates from the high school sorted by year. Of course, if the person never replied to the information sent by the school, this may not be available.
You can check both Facebook and MySpace to see if he is registered there. Some high school classmates use this to stay in touch with others.
If you are still striking out, type in the person's name in google and see if you can find information. If it is a female, they may have a new last name so this can be difficult. Do you remember some of their friends?
Type in their friends names from high school as well in order to see if you can locate them. You can then give them a call and re-introduce yourself letting them know you wish to find your former friend. It may be better to ask for an e-mail address if the person is reluctant to give out a phone number.
There are also some helpful websites to track someone down from the past and you can use them to locate your old friend from high school. Don't just let your friendship fade away and disappear. Your friend may be looking for you too but unsure of how to find you. Are you listed on the high school website? Do you have your name out on the web? If you are married, try to get out some info with your maiden name as well so people can locate you.
